Graduating Seniors
Jade Almsberger (she/her) is graduating in Spring 2024 with a B.F.A. in Design & Technical Theatre, with a focus on costumes. Since being here, she’s been learning so much in the costume shop and even became the lead shop assistant. Design credits include Ever There (WCDT 2022) Stupid Fucking Bird (2022), A Midsummer Night's Dream (Empty Space 2023), and Peter and the Starcatcher (2024). Favorite full and partial costume build credits include The Princess’s Dress (Love’s Labor’s Lost 2021),The Seagull Dress (Stupid Fucking Bird 2023), and Berthe’s Dress (Pippin 2023), and probably something for Peter (TBD). Jade also discovered her love for wardrobe. She was the supervisor for Love’s Labor’s Lost (2021), The Scarlet Letter (2022), Pippin (2023), and A Chorus Line (2023). Professionally, she was over-hire for IATSE Local 190. She dressed performers for The Lion King (2022) and Dear Evan Hansen (2023). She also spent the last two summers at The Glimmerglass Festival in NY doing wardrobe for Opera. Jade also designed many of the School of Performing Arts’s posters including Fox Sisters (2022), Happy Wright (2022), and all of the 2023-24 season except the Senior Capstone Festival. She hopes to be at a summer stock next summer, followed by joining a touring show.
Ben Bolinger is excited to be graduating this year from Wichita State University. Previously, they worked as a props artisan for Music Theatre Wichita's 2023 summer season which included: Rock of Ages, Red, White, and Broadway, Beauty and the Beast, Ragtime, and Cats. For Wichita State University, they also worked as a props artisan for Stupid F**cking Bird and Pippin, and most recently designed the props for A Chorus Line. They are happy to end their run at WSU and look forward to continuing their cross disciplined theatre career.
Bailey Buchanan is a senior BFA Dance major at Wichita State University. She began dancing at 3 years old, and she has 8 years of teaching and choreographing experience at The Pointe School of Dance and Andover Dance Academy. She has been the Marketing/Social Media Manager for the WSU Dance Program for 2 years and is in her fourth year on the Shocker Dance Team. WSU has allowed her to travel and compete nationally, perform, choreograph, and most recently work with choreographer Darrell Moultrie.
Hannah Chandler is a senior at Wichita State University pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science. She trained locally at Wichita Children’s Theatre and Dance Center for fifteen years, and trained at Ballet Wichita for thirteen years as a company member. She has performed principal roles in Ballet Wichita’s Nutcracker and Ballet Wichita’s productions of Ballet in the Park. Hannah has also attended various summer intensives around the country.
Graduating Seniors
Scott Cockrill is a senior pursuing a BFA in Technical Theatre. Scott has served on the board of Empty Space Theatre as Technical Director for the Fall 22/Spring 23 season. He has worked on many shows since he showed up in the Fall of 2021. Working in a variety of positions from Props Run Crew in Keepers of the Flames, to Assistant Technical Director for Pippin. Scott’s proudest and most educational experience was designing for the Bela Kiralyfalvi National Student Playwriting Competition winner Happy Wright. Scott’s time in the scene shop has set him on a trajectory to succeed in theatre. While attending school he was Technical Director at Wichita Children's Theatre, and has found work as a stagehand for local events. Scott’s mission is to take the things that he has learned on his journey back through school to a successful and joyful second act in his working life.
Dalton DeVoe (He/They) is excited to be returning to the Wilner Stage. Dalton is a senior at Wichita State University currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Performing Arts in Musical Theatre. Originally from Kansas City, Dalton has been involved in numerous productions both there and in Wichita. Previous credits include La Cage Aux Folles and Heathers (Roxy’s Downtown), The Rocky Horror Show (Crown Arts Collaborative). Apart from theatre, he plays guitar, and explores songwriting and creating music. Dalton strives to use theatre and music as ways to inspire and impassion others the same way he was, and use art to share powerful messages to make the world a better place. Denver Fankhouser is very excited to be returning to the stage at Wichita State University. Previously, he appeared as Adam/Felicia in Priscilla Queen of the Desert (Roxy's Downtown), Chantel in La Cage Aux Folles (Roxys Downtown), and Lurch in Addams Family (Crown Uptown). Denver is currently a senior year at Wichita State University pursing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts in Musical Theatre with a minor in dance. He wants to give a huge thank you to Wichita State University for the opportunity and an amazing 4 years.
Ashley Grega has been a part of four shows here at Wichita State University. Previous Credits include Compendium, Love’s Labor’s Lost, and Voices in the Void (Wichita State University). Ashley is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Performing Fine Arts in Theatre Performance with a double minor in Communications and Honors Leadership. She is also a member of the sorority Delta Gamma, holding various leadership positions. Ashley’s mission as an artist is to “thrive off my imagination and show how important it is for someone to never lose theirs. If the story I tell on stage can ignite someone's emotions, I know I did my job as an actress.”

Madi Henderson is excited and kinda terrified to be graduating this spring semester. He is a BA in theatre, minoring in English, and has completed certificates in film making and film studies. Henderson has especially loved working in the scene shop and working as Sound Designer on Happy Wright (WSU) and is excited to be assistant sound designing for the upcoming Peter and the Starcatcher (WSU). He is also the literary director of Empty Space and has loved being a part of the fall workshop as Stage Manager and is looking forward to what we do in the spring. Henderson is thankful for the amazing and supportive faculty who has helped him improve his craft during his time here. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time at WSU and is very lucky to have had the time to hang out with work with so many lovely people here. Love you all <3
Sophia Hillman is elated to be finishing out her time at Wichita State University studying roles she cares so deeply about. She is currently enrolled in her final semester at WSU studying musical theatre and dance. Sophia has been seen around town in Ragtime, Beauty and the Beast, Rock of Ages (Music Theatre Wichita); The Color Purple, Priscilla Queen of the Desert (Roxy’s Downtown); Dreamgirls, Rocky Horror, The Wedding Singer (Crown Arts Collaborative); and most recently, as Cassie in A Chorus Line (WSU). Liberty Joy (she/her) was raised in Casper, Wyoming after being adopted at a young age from China. Liberty soon discovered her love for dance through local studios where she would continue performing until she graduated high school. She is currently a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with minors in Music Theatre and Sociology, as well as a certificate in Commercial Dance. During her time at WSU she has been an active member of the Mid-American Dance Theatre organization and is currently serving her third year as Vice President. She previously appeared in A Chorus Line (WSU), Move on Litwin: Dance Up Close (WSU), and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Ballet Wichita). Liberty’s mission as a performing artist and creator is “to use dance that intrigues the audience, performers, and herself in a way that connects us to one another. She thrives to tell stories through movements that depict personal experiences and honest emotions. She believes that as humans we must have a sense of community and connection with each other and ourselves”.
Ella Kempker is a senior studying Theatre Performance, Graphic Design, and Stage Management. Ella has a passion for new plays and is thrilled that she has been able to express this passion on 5 projects so far in her time art WSU. Ella can be seen at WSU and around town stage managing, and acting for both stage and film. You previously saw her here at WSU as Nina in Stupid F**king Bird or in Bluestem Studio’s Rundown as Ava. Next, she will be working on Christmas Dish as Taylor. Ella’s goal in everything she does is to leave her sparkle on everything she touches!! Cadence LeBoeuf is excited to be back on Wilner stage so soon after making their Wichita State University theatre debut as Mark in A Chorus Line. Their previous credits include Hanna in La Cage Aux Folles (Roxys Downtown), Frank in Demise At The Department Store (Prairie Pines Playhouse), and Stokes in Carrie (Roxys Downtown). Cadence is a senior in college pursuing a Bachelor in Performing Arts in Musical Theatre. They would like to give a special thanks to their partner Dex for their never-ending support and love.
Mckenna Lewis is thrilled to be in her final performance at Wichita State University. She is a senior pursuing a Bachelor in Performing Arts in Musical Theatre and a minor in Dance. Previous credits include Footloose (Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park), Pippin & A Chorus Line (WSU), and A Crown Holiday Spectacular (Crown Arts Collaborative). She is honored to be learning and growing as an artist in her final semester at Wichita State.
Sydney Mason is a transfer student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and is a member of the Wichita Contemporary Dance Theatre and is the treasurer of the Mid America Dance Theatre. She has recently joined the Mortar Board Honor Society as well as the Metropolitan Ballet. Previously, she performed in Move on Litwin: Dance Up Close (WSU) choreographed by Cheyla Clawson, Mina Estrada, Sabrina Vasquez, Denise Celestin, and Sarah Knapp and The Nutcracker (Century II Performing Arts Center) choreographed and arranged by Jill Landrith. Previous study includes Ruth Page Center for the Arts under Victor Alexander, Barton Community College under Danika Bielek, and Aly's Dance Studio under Alyson Smith.
Alexandria Nickel is a senior at Wichita State University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in dance. She found her passion for dancing at a christian based dance studio called Angel Feet Dance Studio (currently Fortress Ballet). She teaches pointe, pre pointe, ballet, jazz and modern at Angel Feet for many different levels of dancers. She currently dances and performs with Wichita Contemporary Dance Theatre, Mid- America Dance Theatre, and Ballet Wichita. Alexandria is the Mid-American Dance Theatre President and a Fine Arts ambassador.
Damien Page transferred to WSU shortly before his senior year of college. Despite only being here for a short time, he hopes to utilize his knowledge and skill learned from all his attended colleges while creating this capstone. Damien is a B.A Theatre student but has taken a particular interest in theatre design/technical direction. After graduation, Damien hopes to continue working with professional theatre companies and/or roadhouses on the path towards becoming a technical director.

Piper Patterson (She/Her) is currently a senior at Wichita State University pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Dance. She grew up dancing in the mid-west at Little Steps Dance Studio in Seneca, KS. During her time at Wichita State, she has performed in various films and concerts with Wichita Contemporary Dance Theater. Her time at WSU has been well spent training in multiple styles of dance under not only the guidance of the truly inspiring dance faculty but guest artists as well including Darrell Grand Moultrie, Hui Cha Poos, and Charlotte Boye-Christensen. When she isn’t taking class herself, she is sharing her dance knowledge with students of her own at Raeanne’s Fancy Footwork and Andover Dance Academy. Piper strives to explore the world through the connectedness dance brings and will continue to grow as the ideas around her shape her into the dancer she will be tomorrow.
Sophie Pickett is so excited to be a part of the Senior Capstone Celebration! Sophie is a senior at Wichita State University, credits include, Vanities, Pippin, A Chorus Line, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at WSU. Emily Redfield is excited to be a part of the Senior Capstone Festival! Emily is a BFA Theatre Performance major with a directing certificate and an Honors College minor track. Previous WSU acting credits include Compendium (Lucy), Popcorn Movie (Aubrey), and Loves Labor’s Lost (Princess). She also assistant directed Stupid F***ing Bird. Emily is a member of the Society of American Fight Directors, holding four certifications in unarmed, single sword, broadsword, and rapier/dagger combat. Emily plans to continue work in acting, directing, and stage combat after graduation.
Renae Richmond is excited to be back on Wilner stage. Their previous credits include Stage Manager of Midsummer (Empty Space Theater) and A Chorus Line (WSU); and Costume Build Crew for Pippin and Stupid F##king Bird (WSU). They also worked as a Hair & Makeup Artisan at MTW this summer (Rock of Ages, Beauty & the Beast, Ragtime, Cats). Catch them next semester as Black Stache in Peter and the Starcatcher. They are a senior theatre performance major with a minor in musical theater and a certificate in stage management. They are also the Production Manager of Empty Space Theater. August Smaglik is so excited to have had the opportunity to expand their skills over the past 4 years. They have primarily done props work through their professional and educational career. They have previously been a Prop Artisan for Music Theatre Wichita's 2022 and 2023 seasons, including the shows Rock of Ages, Red White and Broadway, Beauty and the Beast, Ragtime, Cats, Jersey Boys, 42nd Street, Kinky Boots, The Wizard of Oz, and The Drowsy Chaperone. They have also been the Props Designer for the The Rocky Horror Show (Crown Arts Collaborative), Pippin (Wichita State University Theatre), and Stupid F##king Bird (WSU). They have previously been the Costume Designer for Happy Wright (WSU) and Assistant Costume Designer and Props Designer for The Scarlet Letter (WSU Opera). August is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Design and Technical theatre with an emphasis on props management and construction. Jo Smith will be completing a BFA in Theatre Performance at Wichita State University. He is grateful for all the people he has met here, and all the opportunities and the knowledge they have shared with him. His previous credits include Rocky Horror Picture Show (Crown Arts Collaborative), Sleuth (ICT Repertory Theatre), Stupid Fucking Bird (Wilner Auditorium), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Welsbacher Theatre). After achieving his BFA, He hopes to achieve more education in Theatre Arts, and travel more.
Gavin Tanner is thrilled to be a part of the Senior Capstone Celebration! His previous credits include Ride the Cyclone (Roxy’s), Pippin and A Chorus Line (Wichita State University), and Carrie (Roxy’s). Gavin is a senior pursuing his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre Performance, and he is the president of the Wichita Musical Theatre Company (WSMTC). Gavin would like to thank his family, friends, God, and Peyton for supporting him through this process. His mission as an artist is to educate, inspire, and encourage.
Adia CB Tolbert is happy to report she is graduating with her BFA in Design and Technical Theatre in May of 2024! Adia has been working within WSU for many years, having worked in the costume shop for almost three years, designed productions such as Pippin, Go Like Saints, and A Midsummer Night's Dream, and currently serves as the Artistic Director of Empty Space Theatre. Outside of the university, Adia has worked with Music Theatre Wichita for the past two years within their costume shop, and has had the privilege to build and design Crown Arts Collaborative's A Crown Holiday Spectacular, and Neosho County Community College's Silent Sky. Coming up, she will be designing The Marriage of Figaro in the spring, and keeping busy with EST's spring production.
Graduating Seniors
Denise Ussery (She/her) is excited but nervous to graduate from Wichita State University. She is graduating in Spring 2024 with her BFA in Design and Technical Theatre. In her three years at WSU, Denise has been a proud scene shop employee and is currently the lead shop assistant. She has also worked as a sound and lighting designer on shows like Pippin and the upcoming Peter and the Starcatcher (sound design) as well as Happy Wright (lighting design), or doing both on shows like A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Empty Space Theatre. She has also spent her time in the trenches working as an A1 on shows such as A Chorus Line and Loves Labor’s Lost or as an A2 for Keepers of the Flame. Currently, Denise also serves as one half of the Technical Director duo for Empty Space Theatre. Outside of WSU Denise spent last summer as a carpentry apprentice for the Colorado Shakespeare Festival and plans to return next summer as a staff carpenter.
Christian Watkins is incredibly excited to be able to perform for his last time here at Wichita State University. Previous credits include Kiss of the Spider Woman (Roxy’s Downtown), Pippin & A Chorus Line (WSU), and Pajama Game (Butler). Christian is a senior pursuing his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater performance with a minor in dance. Christian’s mission is to “tell beautiful stories and to bring entertainment to audiences while inspiring others along the way”.
Wyman Wheeler is thrilled to be a part of the Senior Capstone Celebration! Wyman has been in many shows in the Wichita area, including Ride the Cyclone (Roxy’s Downtown) as Mischa Bachinski. Other credits include Sky Masterson in Guys And Dolls (Cowley Summer Theatre), Ensemble in Pippin (understudying for Pippin), and Zach in A Chorus Line (Wichita State) Wyman is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theater performance and a certificate in voice acting at Wichita State University.
